Do Not Be Entangled Again with Bondage

Americans, it's happening. Our country is sinking deeper and deeper into a pit called "bondage" every single day.
From light bulbs to health care, the simple freedoms that we the people have a right to are being ripped from us all the time, and it's happening fast.
Don't you think that every family has the right to decide what kind of light bulb they want to use in their own household? It seems like a no-brainer. But the government has decided that every family should be forced to use fluorescent light bulbs - you know, those curly ones? They say it's better for the environment, and that it will save money. So to make sure everyone uses these fluorescent bulbs, regular bulbs are not being manufactured anymore. That's right. Soon you won't even be able to buy them! But the truth is, these fluorescent bulbs cost $1-$2 a piece, where regular bulbs only cost .20 on average. And besides - global warming is a myth, and the environment is fine. Most scientists today (even liberal scientists) admit that global warming isn't happening. It is purely a political tool. The earth's temperature has cycles, just like everything else in life, and for a while it was warming up. But now, at least where I live in Texas, it's cooled down considerably for this time of year. So global warming isn't even a real issue. It bothers me so badly when people exert all their energy into "saving the planet", when there are real issues at hand, like starving children all over the world - even in America. Anyway, I didn't mean to go on so long about global warming. I just wanted to prove my point.
Not only are we going to be forced to buy low-quality light bulbs, but also low-quality cars, that are also supposed to be "good for the environment." The government now owns the major car company, GM. And now, many people that used to work for GM are confessing that they were forced from their jobs by the government. That's what communist countries do!!!
Have you heard about Miss California, Carrie Prejean? Carrie Prejean was in the final running for Miss USA when she was asked whether or not she thought gay-marriage should be legalized in America. She gave an honest, polite answer; "We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised." And for giving that answer, she was attacked, ridiculed, badgered, and finally fired from being Miss California! All because she believed marriage should be between a man and a woman. That is not American!
And something else the government is working hard to take control of...health care! That's right! Once the government controls health care, you won't be able to choose your own doctors, get help when you need it, or even pay for your own medication. In other countries where the government owns health care, they will not send out an ambulance for anyone over the age of 65. And if your case of cancer is under a certain level, the average waiting time for treatment is 3 years. And when Obama says that 50,000,000 people in America don't have health care...it's just a lie.
And worst of all, our Christian founding principals are being ripped right from beneath our feet. First Obama stated twice publicly that America no longer considers itself a Christian nation. But a few weeks ago when Obama visited the Middle East, he said that America could be considered the second largest Muslim nation in the world! Why does he say that, when less than 4% of Americans claim to be Muslim? America does actually have the second largest Jewish population, so if he is so against us being a Christian nation, why doesn't he call us a Jewish nation? He said we were no longer a "Christian nation" because, supposedly, he wanted to be fair to all the religions observed in the USA (which still doesn't make sense.) But now he is willing to say that America is a Muslim nation, with suddenly no regard to the other religions in America. Why is he so set on becoming friends with the Muslim nations, when they are our enemies? Why has he forbidden the term "War on Terror?" Why does he call conservative citizens "Terrorists," but refuses to call extreme Muslims "Terrorists?"
The way I see it, America is not only quickly becoming a socialist country, it is also on its way to turning its back on Israel. And God have mercy on us if we do. The people of Israel are God's chosen people, and in the Bible He always punished her enemies.
This isn't just about politics or parties. It's not even all about fluorescent light bulbs and government health care. It's about keeping God's blessing on our country. Why would we let a gift from God be taken away from us so swiftly? America is a Christian nation. And the country that Obama is trying to turn America into - it isn't America. We'll call it "Obamamerica."
Seriously, though, I'm not saying this because I hate democrats, or because I hate Obama -because I don't. The Bible commands us to love and pray for our enemies, which is a command I strive very hard to obey. I'm saying all of this because God has given us the rare gift of a free country. In the past, we have had the freedom to worship whom we please, to voice our opinions, to elect our leaders, and to fight not only for our own freedom, but others' as well. God has used America greatly for the past 233 years. We have been a safe haven for many people escaping tyranny. We've sent out missionaries to every corner of the world. We've protected Israel among other countries from people like Hitler. Now, will we let our own country slip away?
Wake up! Do something! They did it 233 years ago. We can do it today.
Call the White House. You don't even have to talk to your own representatives. Just let people know how you feel! This is the number: 202-456-1111.
Tell everyone you know what is happening to our country. I don't even care if you email this post to everyone in your contacts! Just make sure that people know what is really going on. Read our founding documents, so you can know for yourself how America is really supposed to be. Go to protests! Go to the next Tea Party on July 4th!
If you don't fight to make a difference, you will be accountable for our country's fall. Don't be guilty for losing America; don't be guilty for losing God's favor.
The Bible commands us in Galatians 5:1 to "Standfast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage."
Is America worth fighting for? Is your freedom worth fighting for?
I'm not asking this just to have a creative clincher at the end of my post. I'm really asking you. Is America worth it to you? Is God's blessing on America worth it to you? Well, is it?

You probably don't want or expect comments from someone like me, but I cannot refrain from responding with all the hurt in my gut after reading some of your posts from recent months. You also probably have pat answers to throw back in my face, but I'll try to communicate some of my anguish despite my better judgment

Your fear-mongering and blatant hatred makes me ill. Reading Liberty's blog makes me ill. You know what you remind me of? Those militant political zealot friends of Jesus who couldn't comprehend what he was ever talking about or doing, when it was right in front of them and even after he'd given himself up to die. Where is Jesus in all of this? All I hear coming from the Christian conservative camp is racist drivel and boiling rage and political bigotry. Please wake up yourself and calm down a bit. We have a smart, compassionate, humble (Christlike, even) president for the first time in decades, who is more sincere in his Christianity than any of the former presidents I've known in my lifetime. Somehow you Christians refuse to acknowledge that you and he share the same faith(??!).

If Jesus' best friends could be prostitutes and government employed tax collectors, etc., is it really that evil for our president to diplomatically and compassionately reach out to a Muslim population, that is to say, to a group who constitute an Other (who are people too, after all), with wisdom, encouragement, and peacefulness? I've never been so ashamed of Christians as I have been since Obama's election. All reason seems to have gone up in smoke. Obamamerica? Who is making this stuff up? How is America going to become not America suddenly? Can you deny by what phenomenal margin President Obama won the recent election? That was America who elected him, who desired him to be a leader, governor, and representative to the world.

Communism? Czars? Light bulbs? GM? Do you realize what kind of cartoonish propaganda you all are regurgitating? Because some of the most greedy, inhumane aspects of Almighty Capitalism (which I sometimes think Christians worship more than Christ) have failed in recent times doesn't signal the end of the world. I really have to wonder if you worship Capitalism, Government, and Country more than God? America is a very young nation. It is not a Christian nation/government either (neither in its conception nor as a reflection of the majority population); it is simply a humanitarian tool, to facilitate the betterment of lives. Separation of church and state, right? Tea Parties? Taxes? Big government, small government? Didn't Jesus tell his followers to render to Caesar what is Caesar's? Can you imagine what in the world he would say to your Tea Parties?

Observing such hatred (for all the "enemies" you have now) and irrational outrage pouring forth from otherwise good people (and teenagers!) makes me want to cry.

Dear Amanda,
First of all, thank you for reading my blog. It is my hope that many people will take the time to read it, whether or not they agree.
You asked me where Jesus was in all of this. He is all throughout my beliefs, my most recent article, and my whole blog. In my last post, I said that the whole reason we need to start making a difference is because it anguishes me to see our country turning its back on God. If I did not believe that the freedom to worship God was important, I wouldn’t be so passionate about these things. With nationalized healthcare, government owned companies, etc., America is becoming more and more like a socialist country. Socialism leads to communism. And in most communist countries that I know of, freedom of religion is not a reality.
I know that I am not one to judge whether or not another is saved, but I cannot help but question Obama's faith. How can he truly be living for Jesus, when he is for things like partial birth abortion? If he is a Christian, why is he saying that America is no longer a Christian nation? And actually, America was founded as a Christian nation. As far as separation of church and state goes, that doesn't mean that faith and Christianity have no role in government. It means that the power of a certain church should not be tied in with the government, like the Catholic Church was in Europe in the Middle Ages. Even Benjamin Franklin, a founding father, said this: "I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: 'that God governs in the affairs of man.' And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?....”
As a Christian, I do not worship capitalism, and I don't know anyone that does. Rather, I treasure the freedom that God has blessed our country with! It seems to me that more and more people “worship” Obama. Even now, hateful jokes are made daily about Bush and Cheney. I know it’s normal to joke about the current officials, and that’s fine, but why doesn’t anyone ever touch Obama? Why are people still saying things about Bush, when he’s not even President anymore? That’s just a little pet-peeve I have.
I am not hateful, nor bigoted. I even said in my post that I was not writing out of hate towards democrats or Obama, but out of love for my free country and fear that its Christian principles are being taken away. As I said, I really do try to obey Jesus’ command in Luke 6:27; “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies…” And I also know that the Bible says to pray for our leaders. I try to do that as well. I would love to see Obama come to the truth and really start living out his professed Christian faith. But I’m not going to sit on the hope that that will happen, and not try to make a difference in the meanwhile. The Bible also says “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” (Galatians 5:1) God has blessed us with a free country where we can worship Him, or whomever we choose, and where we can also help other countries to achieve the same freedom! I believe that it is His will that we work to hold onto that freedom. And I don’t think He would be happy if we showed apathy while it was being taken away from us.
It really bothers me when people call me a racist. That is the farthest thing from the truth! I have family members who are black. My very best friend is black. Not only do I have black friends and relations, but I also have many close friends of other nationalities and colors. I have never held anything against anyone because of their color. I believe I can speak for the majority of conservatives when I say that I do not dislike Obama because of his color, but because of his policies. My parents have even voted for other black people in the past. So please, do not call me a racist.

As far as reaching out to the Muslim nations and helping the poor, I am all for that. Was it not under Bush’s administration that the people of Iraq tore down the statue of Saddam Hussein? But the truth still remains that there are many extreme Muslims who have attacked America in the past, and have shown no remorse for doing so. While we fight the War on Terror, we are not only trying to protect our own soil, but also liberate the countries where these extreme Muslims act as tyrants.
Among the many great freedoms in this country is the freedom of speech. America was founded so that whenever the government did something that in the people’s eyes was wrong, the people could use their right to speak out to oppose that government. Many people in America, including myself, do not think that what Obama is trying to accomplish is truly American, so we are using our right to share our opinion, hoping that we may change some things to better our lives, but most of all, the lives of future Americans. Is there anything so very wrong in that?
What if, 233 years ago, our founding fathers had not rebelled against the government that was oppressing them? America wouldn’t be here! Now I, along with other conservatives, am just trying to protect the country that America was meant to be!
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. Seeing so many people become blind to what is really happening to their country, and their rights, makes me want to cry. I hope that I can be influential in awakening awareness as to the state our country is really in.
I am not angry about what you said in your comment. I like knowing that a variety of people with a variety of beliefs read my blog. As the title of my blog insinuates, I am all for freedom of speech!
This whole fight I keep talking about really is about keeping our religious freedom. I wrote an entire article just on that, titled “One Nation…Under God?” If you click on “Older Posts” at the bottom of this page, you can read it. And I would encourage you to do so, if you haven’t already, so you can see better where I’m coming from.

Wow. I would love to read that and participate in your argument. I don't have time at the moment, but I will mark this in my RSS feed and try to come back later. These two things jumped out at me though:

Firstly, I don't agree with the government restriction on lightbulb production. I think it's silly. However, fluorescent bulbs save a lot of money in the long run because they draw way less energy and give off more light. They are better than the cheap bulbs.

Capitalism is the freedom to spend your money however you wish to.

Capitalism is *not* necessarily big business. Most conservatives are supporters of entrepreneurial capitalism (or "small business" whichever you prefer to call it), which is a totally different animal from big business.

On a side note; the American dream is the freedom to do as you will, it's not "big house, fancy car, nice vacation," it's freedom. It irritates me when people refer to the American dream as if it's one specific thing instead of the Freedom to do many things (some of which may be having a nice car, house, etc. neither of which are inherently bad).

I could believe 50,000,000 people in America don't have health care. There are at least that many people living in the slums of big cities and such. Where do you have information contradicting this?

Not all Muslims are terrorists, and not all Muslim nations are our enemies.

That's not strictly true. The first book that Congress had printed en masse was a Bible, "for use in schools."

It's a fine sentiment, but it doesn't occur in the Constitution. The closest thing to it? The 1st Amendment says that the Government can't make laws about religious institutions. That's all. The phrase "separation of church and state" is from a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote once.

It does raise doubts about him, that's true. He may just be confused about the subject, like many others. I'd like to think that, at least.

I'm not sure she was referring to you, but rather to some others in the "Conservative camp." I'm not sure what she's referring to (could you throw me a link, Amanda?) as far as the majority of Conservatives go, but there are a *few* Conservatives who could be considered racist (mainly in the backwoods south). I don't know that any of them are very vocal nationally though.

It seems to me that the ultimate insult to generations of Americans who lived through (and triumphed over) discrimination is to cry "racism" every time someone disagrees with an elected official who happens to be a person of color. We have come so far as a nation. Yet here we have a young writer sharing her thoughts and opinions, backing them up with facts and examples -- and branded a racist simply for disagreeing with the president's politics and policies. Tsk, tsk.

I did not vote for Barack Obama. Because life begins at conception, because we are fearfully and wonderfully made, I cannot support a candidate not only firmly supports existing laws regarding abortion, but is committed to using my tax dollars to broaden the availability of this barbarous act. A person's stance on abortion tells me much about his/her character and faith -- key elements in decision making. So this is my litmus test. If you want my vote for dog catcher or garbage collector (excuse me; animal control officer or sanitation engineer), I want to know where you stand on Rowe v. Wade.

I know many, many, many people who did not vote for Obama because of his stance for abortion, his position on gun control, his support of stem cell research, his tree-hugging tendancies (love trees, but love people more), his political history, his lack of experience, his Illinois voting record, his lack of military record, his penchant for big spending, his love of big government, his political affiliation, his political maneuverings, his walloping of Hillary, etc., etc. I don't know ANYONE who did not vote for Obama because of his African heritage.

Racism has nothing to do with political disagreement. The president's politics and policies would be disagreeable whatever his race.

America is still a capitalist country. Private property still exists, the means of production is still owned by a rich minority of society. The majority of society, the working class own basically no property other than the clothes on their back and their labor-power which they sell. Government control isn't socialism. If that were the case then all governments in human history would be socialist since some sort of government control has existed in each one of them. Big government is also not socialism/communism. Size of government doesn't matter. What matters is WHO controls the government. Do the people, the working class, control the government, have political and economic control of society? No we don't.

Most of the founding fathers were Deists.

Was it not under GW Bush's administration that the US invaded Iraq under false pretenses to wage an imperialist war of conquest to take over Iraq's territory and oil rescources? In which over a million Iraqis have been killed to date just so oil companies could make more profit? Obama is continuing the imperialist policy, keeping troops in Iraq despite promising to leave. And escalating the war in Afghanistan, which was waged to take over their natural gas and oil resources. And take over a strategic spot in the backyard of America's rivals, Russia, China, Iran, and India.

The so-called war on terror isn't about defense or spreading freedom and liberating people, it's about an open ended never ending war, excuses to take over other countries.

Obama is as capitalist as can be, doing like all the others. He's continuing to bailout the bankers and give the military a blank check to continue to fund the war machine and the military industrial complex who profit off these wars at the cost of millions of human lives.

People are blind. They see Democrats and Republicans both as their friends, people whom they can trust, that represent their interests. Our system of government is a mask, camoflauge, for hiding where the real power lies: with the rich. The government is there to serve them. The Constitution and Bill of Rights are great on paper, but in reality those freedoms don't apply to the rest of us. You only have power and freedom if you have money. Our system is a sham, a dictatorship dressed up in the rhetoric of freedom. All the nice talk of freedom and democracy is to keep us lulled and asleep, complacent and unwilling to revolt. To convince us that the system works and we can count on the politicians.

Capitalism is as you said, private ownership of capital. It's not the freedom to spend your money as you wish. People have to use most if not all of their entire paycheck to pay bills. And more and more people are having to use credit cards to pay bills, thereby getting further and further into debt because wages are so low and the cost of living is rising so fast. People aren't able to spend their money on what they wish. They are forced month after month to pay skyrocking bills and higher taxes to bailout bankers.

Capitalism is indeed big business. Remember, big business was at one time small business. They eventually grew bigger and won out over other businesses. Survival of the fittest. Small capital begets monopoly.

If the American Dream is the freedom to do what you will, then most of us don't have any freedom do we? We don't have the money to do what we want, despite working hard our entire lives. We are constrained by our economic circumstances, we are prey to the anarchy of the unpredictable market.

I believe that roughly 50% of the work-force is employed by small businesses. There are still a lot of them out there.

I won't try to argue with your first comment; I will simply say that I feel sorry for you if you truly view America in such a bleak, depressing manner. I still believe that if someone is prudent with their financial decisions and works hard they can do anything in this nation.
